Description
The Hittite Wine Jug was named after the Hittite Empire (17th-12th century BC) known for establishing the first laws governing the production and sale of wine.
They worshiped the Sun God, Ra, which explains the jug’s circular shape, mimicking the sun. It was also functional - whomever was pouring the wine would thread their arm through the hole and rest the heavy jug on their shoulder, while the short spout was made so that the pourer would bow in order to serve high officials and royalty.
